Private markets adopt a 'pause & prepare' stance amidst the COVID-19 pandemic

This special report, based on a survey of 120+ senior investment professionals, reveals that private investment firms are following a 'pause and prepare' approach - pausing new investment activity and getting better prepared for the future. Some of the key findings from the report include:

Extent of disruption
Over two-thirds of the respondents rated the disruption to their investment operations 3 or higher on a scale of 5 with a mere 3% saying they were not impacted at all, highlighting the extent of disruption.

Immediate fallouts
Deferring or cancelling planned investments, adjusting returns guidance and being more cost conscious were cited as the top three immediate fallouts of the impact of COVID-19 on private markets.

Preparing for the future
Only 4% of the respondents expect a strong V-shaped recovery while the rest maintain an outlook of slow economic recovery. Preparing for a slow and uncertain recovery, 50% of the respondents have highlighted that the pandemic has led to a considerable reprioritisation of investment management technology plans.
